
Spicy Grilled Tempeh Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 block of tempeh (about 8 oz)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 1 tablespoon sriracha or your favorite hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 lime, juiced
- Optional garnish: chopped fresh cilantro, lime wedges
Instructions:
- Prepare the Tempeh:
- Slice the tempeh into thin strips or cubes. Steaming the tempeh for about 10 minutes before marinating can help reduce its natural bitterness and enhance its ability to absorb the marinade.
- Make the Marinade:
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, olive oil, maple syrup or honey, sriracha, garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, black pepper, and lime juice.
- Marinate the Tempeh:
- Place the tempeh in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the tempeh, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator for deeper flavor.
- Preheat the Grill:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using a grill pan on the stove, heat it over medium-high heat.
- Grill the Tempeh:
- Lightly oil the grill grates or the grill pan to prevent sticking. Place the marinated tempeh on the grill. Cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until you achieve nice grill marks and the tempeh is heated through and slightly crispy on the edges.
- Serve:
- Remove the tempeh from the grill. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and lime wedges, if desired. Serve immediately.
