Kohaku Sabo, a new Japanese teahouse cafe located at Chinatown Point, is introduced by the same brand behind Tendon Kohaku. The cafe offers a modern take on Japanese dishes and desserts.
Menu Highlights:
- Mentaiko Cream Sauce Udon Ikura Topping ($23.80++): Udon dish served with mentaiko cream sauce, uni (sea urchin), and ikura (salmon roe). The dish is accompanied by chawanmushi, radish pickles, and soup.
- Carbonara Udon ($17++): Udon served with parmesan, raw egg, and fried bacon. It’s creamy and indulgent.
- Ikura Salmon Cutlet with Avocado on Flavoured Rice ($24.80++): A visually appealing dish resembling a poke bowl, featuring a fried salmon cutlet, avocado, cherry tomatoes, and purple cabbage. It’s served with tartare sauce mixed with a soft-centered egg, ikura, and a sesame oil dressing.
- Sweet Potato Tempura & Ice Cream ($9.80++): A dessert resembling a similar dish from Tempura Motoyoshi Imo in Tokyo.
- Sweet Potato Cream Brulee ($12.80++): A smooth steamed sweet potato topped with custard and sugar, bruleed to create a crackling layer of sweetness. It’s paired with vanilla ice cream and sweet potato crisps.
Kohaku Sabo is situated on the second floor of Chinatown Point, easily accessible from both the Downtown Line and North-East Line at Chinatown MRT Station. The cafe’s interior is designed to resemble a Japanese teahouse, featuring wooden rafters, paper window details, and backlit murals. However, some areas of the cafe felt a bit worn and dim. Kohaku Sabo offers a unique blend of modern Japanese dishes at reasonable prices, with generous portion sizes. The central location at Chinatown Point makes it easily accessible. The Sweet Potato Cream Brulee dessert is a standout and is highly recommended.
