Gong Xi Fa Cai Eating House, located at Yuhua Village Food Centre, is renowned for its fish head steamboat, a creation of Chef Cao Yong. Following the success of his Kallang fish head steamboat joint, co-owned with celebrity Ben Yeo, Chef Cao Yong has opened this new stall in Jurong, quickly gaining popularity among locals.
Signature Dish: The highlight of the menu is the meticulously crafted fish head steamboat. The soup is simmered overnight with a variety of ingredients including fish bones, old mother hen, scallop, and dried sole fish powder, resulting in a rich, umami flavor. The pot is filled with cabbage, seaweed, yam, tofu, and meaty garoupa fish slices, ensuring a hearty and satisfying meal. The broth, with hints of ginger and sour plum, provides comfort, especially on rainy days.
Besides the fish head steamboat, customers can also enjoy a range of zichar dishes such as cereal prawns, prawn roll, crispy baby squid, and sambal lala.
Unique Aspects: Unlike some other steamboat places, Gong Xi Fa Cai Eating House does not use charcoal for their steamboat, which is known to impart a unique smokiness to the soup. However, the taste and quality of the soup still impress, making it worth a return visit.
